FINALLY!   From concept, to concept, to concept, to completion - After years and years of teasing us with  at car shows left and right over the years, Acura has finally come to a conclusion on exactly how their supercar will present itself to the world…  so without further ado we give you the 2016 Acura NSX!

Here are some specs:

Mid-Engine
Longitudinally Mounted
Turbocharged
Dry-sump V6 speculated to have over 550 hp.

Throw in 3 electric motors to help deliver power to all four wheels (one direct drive motor for the rear wheels, and two electric motors for the front wheels for torque vectoring) and you now have what Acura affectionately calls “Sport Hybrid Handling AWD.”

And of course we understand, the pressure of building a super car… the best things in life are worth waiting for.  Like a vintage wine, the plans need to mature.     And deliver.   We suspect one of Acura’s biggest fear was building a hype to a mediocre at best and less than impressive vehicle… being a hybrid only raises our expectations.   Since 2013 the NSX concept or “New Sports Experimental” she’s grown slightly taller, wider and longer.   Her twin V-6 turbocharged  hybrid assistance comes from two motors up front (for torque vectoring), and a direct-drive unit at the rear.  Because of this Acura promises “zero delay acceleration” and “on rails handling” for this extremely focused, highly responding, driver connected car.    With temperatures rising within the NSX, there are no fewer than 10 cooling units: three for the engine, two for the intercoolers and nine-speed dual-clutch transmission, and single units for the twin electric motors and power distribution unit.  The car’s body style and design are centered around the vehicle’s need for cooling as well, which doubles as a downforce.

Within the core of the Acura NSX you’ll find a multi-material, aluminum-intensive chassis incorporates a first-ever casting process that manages to deliver the strength and ductility characteristics of a forged metal.  We’ve also got carbon-fiber flooring, ultra strength steel A-piller, all-aluminum independent front and rear suspension with brake torque vectoring, electric steering and braking systems, topped off naturally with carbon ceramic six and four-piston Brembos.

The NSX will have four modes: Quiet (EV-only), Sport, Sport+, and Track and is estimated to start around $150,000, but Acura still insists on holding out on us when it comes to some real specs and numbers.   They don’t want to be “misunderstood.”   Sure… we get it.

Biggest pair ups to comparable and worthy competitors?  The Audi R8 V10, Ferrari 458 Italia and Porsche 911 Turbo.   Only time will tell.  Literally… it will. We can’t wait to see those numbers!
