Volkswagen's a Little Greener in "Concept" But Their Design Team Hit the Snooze Button for 2015
Volkswagen is one of the most iconic car companies - best known for it's punch buggy Beetles and their 1970's uber cute retro buses... they were hip, they were cool, they put the engine in the back of the car and marketed it to husbands as a car their wife couldn't wreck! Volkswagens were stylish, and fun, and best of all, they stood out...
Comparing the new 2015 Jettas to late model Hondas below... meh...
As the 2015 Jetta beamed at us from across the floor all I could think of was how completely unimpressed I was, and how it's body design was morphing backwards into a '00-05 Toyota Corolla or Honda Accord.
Staring head on I could see a few details - how they managed to shove some LED lights into it's small and squinty headlights... and... I guess that's it... and even those were pretty lame and outdated at best.
While it sort of slightly more resembles the Passat, it even more resembles one of the more uninteresting cars I've seen lately. I'd never be able to tell if it was a 2015 VW, a 2014, VW, or a 2005 Toyota Camry with some mods.
We asked ourselves if the 2015 Jetta could find any redemption under the hood.... and... alas... 2.0-liter, 1.8t, the 2.0-liter turbo four and the Hybrid's 1.4-liter turbo... same as last year.
But wait... Volkswagen claims she's got an whopping 10hp increase over last year due to a few grill shutters and well, yea thats about it, along with some ambient lighting and chrome-ringed gauges, which we assure you, you'll have to pay extra for. This bling don't come cheap.
Volkswagen also debuted it's Golf and Golf SportWagen Concept. The Golf R was about as under-dressed as it's sister, however we were very excited for a new concept- but--- hey... wait... what's this? No fair! This not-so-concept "Wagen" has been for sale in Europe for over a year now. Feeling cheated yet?
The Golf "Concept" wink-wink - SportWagen does get our vote on it's all-new 2.0 liter TDI clean diesel engine and VW's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. Finally... something worth talking about! The "Concept" is lighter, more powerful and more fuel-efficient then it's sibling and VW's breakthrough engineering managed to cut off almost 10% of the vehical's drag.
The regular engine is 170-hp, 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, with your choice of five speed (yay) manual or six-speed (boo) automatic transmission. The TDI diesel engine pumps out about 150 horses from it's 2.0 liter engine.
VW boasts the Golf Concept SportWagen will be 17% more fuel-efficient, and they're hoping it will provide a fun and updated alternative to a compact SUV. We are glad that VW is hoping on the Green Wagen and offering more environmentally friendly alternatives, but we expect a full body makeover on your top models for next year... Don't let us down!

Find Quality Touch Up Paint
All touch up paint is not created equal! The generic paints you buy at auto part stores will likely NOT match your vehicle’s paint exactly. Believe it or not, even the OEM dealers usually stock “close enough” colors. We recommend PaintScratch.com since their high quality paint is freshly made, they custom mix each order for you upon receipt, and they offer a color match guarantee.
