The NEW Fastest Car in the World - Hennessey Venom Breaks Speed Records

NASA - Need Another Super-fast Automobile? We've got it. Space shuttles aren't the only thing that takes off at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida...—On February 14, 2014, Brian Smith, Director of Miller Motorsport, experienced race car driver, and former Michelin tire test engineer drove the Hennessey Venom GT down the 3.2 mile runway, reaching a top speed of 270.49 - beating the current champion's acceleration record, the Bugatti's Veyron Super Sport -who reached a super-sonic 269.86 mph.
It took the car 2.4 miles to hit 270.49 mph, which left Smith only 8-10ths of a mile to stop the car before it lifted off into space- thank god for Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes... we'd love to see the burn marks. Afterwards he claimed, "Had the track been longer, the car could have gone even faster."
Another statistic that will leave you in awe... the Hennessey Venom GT has 1244 hp under that hood... more than twice your expensive, top of the line, luxury sports car and more than 3-4 times your average automobile. And lets not even brag about how fast your car goes from 0-60 mph... The Venom goes from 0-186 in just 13.63 seconds (It can get to 60 in 2.5 seconds).

For all of you super car enthusiasts, Hennessey has already manufactured and delivered 10 Venom GT's with production of another 19 in the works. It comes in good old manual transmission, 6.2-liter twin turbo V8 pumping out over 1,200 hp, 1,155 lb-ft of torque and weighing in at just 2,685 lbs of street legal insanity.

Unfortunately - even though the Hennessey Venom GT beat out the Bugatti, it won't be going down in the Guiness World Records for "World's Fastest Car". GWR requires that the car must make two runs, one in both directions, (just incase the wind has something to do with the acceleration of a car that goes 270 mph!!) and NASA wouldn't approve it. It took them over two years just to get the approval to take the car down the speedway in one direction.
It would have been a pretty ballsy move to spin the car around and jet back up the runway, because hey... seriously... who would have been able to stop them - but Guiness also took away the Venom's glory to be considered a production car because it is only making 29 out of the required 30 cars needed to qualify. A detail they didn't mind ignoring while awarding the car two previous speed records.

So for now, John Hennessey is happy with his off-record record... bragging that the Venom GT can accelerate past 270 mph given a longer runway. Challenge accepted? Selling at a over a million dollars a car, John, you've got a good cash flow, start paving... We definitely want to see this.

Find Quality Touch Up Paint

All touch up paint is not created equal! The generic paints you buy at auto part stores will likely NOT match your vehicle’s paint exactly. Believe it or not, even the OEM dealers usually stock “close enough” colors. We recommend PaintScratch.com since their high quality paint is freshly made, they custom mix each order for you upon receipt, and they offer a color match guarantee.
