Rich Soccer Moms Rejoice - Lamborghini Finally Unveils the Urus (crossover) at the Detroit Auto Show

Because they were too cool for school, Lamborghini finally gives the media the long awaited "first look", at its new crossover, the Urus, not on the Detroit Auto Show convention floor, but at the Museum of Contemporary Art, located around the block. And that's fine, after all most Lambos are engineering works of art... but we're still a little undecided about this one. For starters, we definitely wish it had shown up in a signature canary yellow.

Lamborghini expects 1/3rd of it's production to be dedicated to it's newest installment, with few competitors in its, the-average-guy-just-can't-afford-it market, right next to the Bentley Bentayga and the Maserati Levante, both of which have sold out into consumer demands of SUVs for people who just have too much money to spend and need a place to put those car seats. Some say it is comparable to a fully equipped Porsche Cayenne or a Land Rover Range Rover... but with a starting price of $200k, they're not even in the same ball park at 100 grand.

They claim it will have unparalleled horsepower for it's size/weight ratio and a top speed of 189 mph, incase you're really late getting the kids to school... so here's hoping. Naturally the fastest SUV in the world would have to be a Lamborghini.

Under the hood you'll find a twin-turbocharged 4-liter V8 engine, an 8 speed automatic transmission, and a zero to 62 mph acceleration of 3.6 seconds. You'll also get the standard performance parts and performance you'd expect in something branded with the raging bull, such as carbon ceramic brakes, 4 wheel steering and torque vectoring, and 6 driving modes, including one for when you feel like racing your Urus against your buddy's M5.

Best of all, Urus can fit you and four of your buddies, and has a ton of room for luggage. They expect it to hit U.S. markets by the end of 2019, just in time for Christmas.
How do we feel about it? I'll be honest, performance-wise, I'm sure it's going to be off the charts... but in the looks category, I'm going to be honest, I'm giving them a 8, mostly because of missing the opportunity to make the Urus the most sleek, sharp, and aggressive looking SUV on the market. It's a great looking car, don't get me wrong, but I'm not blown away by the body design. I don't look at it and think, "there's a Lamborghini in there", the way I do with the Bentley and the Maserati. They could have done much better, and in previous years, their prototypes have been really, really nice. I don't know why it lost it's edge, (no pun intended) in final production. Truth be told, I half expected it to look like an Aventador with big wheels, or at least remotely resemble Lambo's signature stealth bomber look. I mean, there's a lot going on with that grill, but it's just a bit softer than we're used to seeing our chiseled Italian exotics.

Find Quality Touch Up Paint

All touch up paint is not created equal! The generic paints you buy at auto part stores will likely NOT match your vehicle’s paint exactly. Believe it or not, even the OEM dealers usually stock “close enough” colors. We recommend PaintScratch.com since their high quality paint is freshly made, they custom mix each order for you upon receipt, and they offer a color match guarantee.
