Finally, out in the public eye, the new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro was revealed in good old Motor City.  

She’s lighter… General Motor’s latest installment has shed more than 200 lbs thanks to the use of aluminum, suspension components, a new chassis and other auto slimming body parts.  The new Camaro incorporates the best in engineering and technology from both the Cadillac ATS and the Chevy Corvette to improve it’s drive, performance and handling.  

Under the hood of the Camaro SS sits the Corvette’s 6.2-liter V8 pushing 455 ponies and 455 lb-ft of torque.  Known as the LT1, it has a cast aluminum block and cylinder heads, with direct injecting, variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation.  

There’s also, of course, a four-cylinder option for those of you who love the style yet want the improved fuel economy and cost, as it’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine will still output 275 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.  It also includes direct injection, variable valve timing, and uses aluminum components.  Chevy boasts a 30 mpg highway rating that will still get you to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds, making it the most fuel efficient Camaro ever.   

And for those of you who want the best of both worlds - not too hot, not too cold, in the middle is the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6, rated at 335 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque, with the same bonuses as the other two: direct injection, variable value timing and cylinder deactivation.  

You’ll get your choice of eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters, or for you pedal pushers and clutch lovers, a six-speed manual.  

At first glance the vehicle looks unmistakably like a Chevy Camaro.  Like last years Chevy Camaro.  In fact, if you looked at it fast, it could be the 2015 Chevy Camaro- changing very little to the actual body style other than a revamp on the aerodynamics by sharpening the curves, and giving the car a more dramatic appearance optimized for speed.   Lets be honest.  Which initally, we find disappointing.  There's nothing like a full redesign to get your V8 going...  But that's ok... as long as that time was well spent under the hood in engineering and technology, we will forgive you for being a little lazy.  To put it bluntly, she'd better be faster and have some really cool interior features and electronics.    

And she does!  Inside you’ll find a few new toys.  Screens for entertainment, performance, navigation and information, as well as an eight-inch screen with the Chevy MyLink System, new dash controls and light settings-- lots and lots for you to play with.   

Other performance features include multi-link MacPherson strut front suspension, optional Brembro brakes and Magnetic Ride Control for the SS.  Chevy promises an entirely new driving experience… lighter, quicker, more powerful with improved handling.
